I have received above 35 invitations like this, worded almost precisely the same manner. The senders have acted astonished and upset that I did not jump to reap the benefits of this invitation.

Let us consider the problems within this request from a marketing perspective.

* The vast majority of the invitations I received were from individuals whose names I didn't identify. Why would I wish to be part of their network? The request doesn't say how I'd benefit from their community and who they are, who they have use of.

* What is Linked In, how does it work and what are the benefits of using it? No body has yet explained this clearly in their invitation. You can not expect that some one receiving this request understands what you are asking them to participate or how it'd be good for them. It'd be helpful to have a sentence or two explaining how it works and stating a specific result anyone behind the invitation loved from membership. It might be that people think that since 'basic membership is free,' the conventional individual of the request may go-ahead and join. But even though it will not cost money, time would be taken by joining. You still need to 'sell' people on going for a free action, particularly with respect to an activity or organization which may be different for them.

* Nobody took the time to head off possible misconceptions or objections to the account.
